Palliative care pain management differs from the acute and primary care setting. First and foremost, the provider is always concerned about addiction in the acute and primary care setting. In the acute and primary care setting, narcotics and nonnarcotic pain medications are typically used to treat acute pain following an injury, surgery, and something of that nature.
Pain management in the acute phase is not meant to be continued long-
term. It is only meant for the immediate future, between one day to six
