Health Promotion: Obesity Among Teens And Kids
Back in our parent’s period, there were not as many fast food chains. But as time goes on, more and more fast-food restaurants are being built and put into place. Along with different fast food chains, many gyms are being opened and memberships are at a better price. Teens are new to exercising and have no idea how to prioritize eating healthy or going to the gym. What happens when people don’t prioritize healthy eating habits and work out? Obesity happens. A person who is obese is diagnosed based on their BMI ( body mass index) about that person’s height and weight. According to Healthy People 2030, 17.8 percent of children and adolescents aged 2 to 19 years had obesity in 2013-16. Also according to this article, about 13.7 in the US are obese(Healthline, 2016).
Why Are Teens Obese?
A lot more people ( in particular adolescents) are starting to become obese because they lack physical activity and a healthy diet. According to the University of Georgia, 75 percent of teenagers are not getting enough daily exercise, that is a lot of teens. As a teenager, you are still influenced by your parents and by your peers( Lauren Bagget, 2022). High school has an enormous number of different sports to choose from.
